Bassett Mechanical offers internship opportunities in various aspects of our business. These opportunities allow aspiring young professionals to explore different avenues they might be interested in, get exposure to a variety of roles and departments, and receive hands-on training that facilitates personal and professional growth.

This summer, we welcomed Gannon S. as a Marketing intern at Bassett Mechanical. We sat down with Gannon to learn more about him and how his internship is helping him achieve his dream of a marketing career.

Meet Gannon:

Q: Can you tell us about yourself?

A: My name is Gannon Stellmacher. I am a marketing student at Fox Valley Technical in Appleton and will graduate in May 2025. I am from Ripon, WI. Some of the things I do for fun are running and working out. I love to be with friends and family. I am also a very competitive person. I like to win and have a good time. I like to hunt/fish and be outside whenever I can.

Q: What made you want to go into marketing?

A: I wanted to get into marketing because I didn’t know what I wanted to go to school for, and I figured that marketing is so big that you can do it in so many ways. When I got into classes and started to understand it a little more, I was more into it and enjoyed it. This made me want to do it for a career.

Q: What type of projects have and will you be working on this summer?

A: I will be working on Bassett’s internal and external communication pieces—News and Views and Bassett Blueprint—writing industry articles and internship spotlights and creating social media posts. I am very excited to see what I can do to help Bassett with my marketing skills and create these projects.

Q: What are you hoping to achieve from this experience?

A: I’d like to develop my skills in digital marketing tools and platforms like SEO, social media management, and content creation. I would also like to gain practical experience applying marketing theories and strategies to real-world scenarios. By achieving this goal by the end of my internship, I believe I can contribute to the marketing team, gain a clearer understanding of my career goals, and have a solid foundation for a successful career in marketing.

Q: What have you learned so far?

A: There is not a day that is the same, and that is what is nice about marketing. I never know what I’ll be doing when I come to work because it’s ever-changing. A deadline could have a change, an associate needs a presentation ASAP, plus all my additional duties. So, being ready for whatever could come next is a good thing that I have adapted to.

Q: What is some advice for people looking to start a career in Marketing?

A: Marketing trends evolve rapidly, especially in digital marketing. This is a very wide-ranging career, there is so much in marketing that you can do. Stay updated with industry news, blogs, podcasts, and conferences. So, if you think that you don’t know what you want to do, there will probably be a job for you in marketing somewhere.  You can also consider specializing in a specific area of marketing that aligns with your interests and strengths, such as social media marketing, content marketing, SEO, or email marketing. Continuous learning is key to staying up to date.
