In January of 2017, Bassett Mechanical underwent a successful external audit to continue our certification and upgrade to the latest revision of ISO 9001. While this version was released in 2015, Bassett Mechanical has been certified to ISO 9001 since 2002 and was one of the first mechanical contractors in the state of Wisconsin to do so. Many changes have taken place over the last fifteen years to both the standard and how it is utilized by Bassett.
ISO 9001 is a quality management system, which means it is a set of guidelines to assist the overall performance of an organization by providing a foundation for sustainable improvement. There are seven principles which are the heart of ISO 9001: customer focus, leadership, engagement of people, process approach, continual improvement, evidence-based decision making and relationship management.
Look again at those principles. There is nothing extraordinary about any single item; each is just an example of good business practices.
How does an ISO certification benefit a company in the construction industry? The answer is by helping the organization to focus on processes and relate it to their improvements, goal-oriented results and the engagement of employees who are the experts in their respective fields. All while keeping the needs of the customer in focus.
So rather than try and share every element of our journey to acquire, maintain and upgrade an ISO certification, Bassett would like to extend an open invitation. Anyone interested in learning more can contact our Performance Excellence / Quality Management Department. We are proud of our system and would be happy to provide insight into how it functions. Suffice it to say that what we have created would not have been possible without dedicated leaders who consistently plan for the future by setting the strategic direction and goals for the company. Both time and effort are required from everyone in the organization, but utilizing the quality management principles, an already successful company can become world-class.
